Christchurch School of Music
16 October 2016
The Christchurch School of Music (CSM) Showcase Concert is a wonderful celebration of music which provides an opportunity each year for friends and supporters of the School along with the public of Christchurch to enjoy some wonderful music making from students of the School. 600 performers, both young and young at heart will join together to perform in a number of massed items under the directorship of CSM conductors supported by the school’s tutors.
As the audience arrives they will be entertained by the jazz combo on stage. The concert will open with a brass fanfare from the Royall Boxes and will be followed by music from the Suzuki Strings, the choirs accompanied by guitars and ukuleles and two of the Outreach Bands, Friday Youth Band and Jazz@4.
The second half will begin with the School’s flagship orchestra, the UC Christchurch Youth Orchestra followed by a massed concert band and finally a massed orchestral item. To support stage changes there will be some “pop-up” items from the Royal Boxes which will feature Fair Wind, the schools senior recorder consort, soloists from the Youth Orchestra and the exciting samba band.
A wonderful concert which truly celebrates the joy and power of making music together.
