MIRIAM MARGOLYES JOINS THE
ISAAC THEATRE ROYAL
Following Sir Ian McKellen and Flight of the Conchords’ generous fundraising leads, I am delighted to announce that another internationally acclaimed actor will be holding a special one-off show in Christchurch very soon to assist in the fundraising drive to repair and restore our (now World) famous and much loved Theatre.
MIRIAM MARGOLYES, of Harry Potter and Blackadder fame, will donate her spare time during her nationwide Theatre tour of “Dickens’ Women”, on Friday evening 11th May, to perform a very intimate and exclusive one-off performance at Christ’s College Old Boys’ Theatre from 6.30pm sharp.
Recently referred to as “Saucy at Seventy..”, Miriam’s show will be a special ‘Literary Liaison’ which could probably get a tad naughty at times!
Presented in association with The Press and the Christchurch Writers Festival this will be a feast of words and hilarity not to be missed, and all for a good cause too.
Margolyes says she felt incredibly sad when she heard about the damage. ”Everyone has to do what they can … Theatre is not just entertainment, it is about a place in your soul. I am thrilled to have the chance to help the Theatre Royal. And if I can make people laugh too, that’s a bonus.“
Tickets for the Miriam Margolyes Very Intimate Literary Liaison are $55 (excl booking fees) and go on sale Thursday 26 April at 9.00am from Dash Tickets or i-site venues in Christchurch or Kaiapoi.
Tickets are extremely limited (200 only) and this will be a one-show-only event… Do not miss out!
The Press Christchurch Writers’ Festival
The Press Christchurch Writers’ Festival returns this year between 30 August and 2 September with a great line-up of international and New Zealand authors. The Geo Dome in Hagley Park and other venues will be full of inspirational and entertaining tales as we celebrate the long-awaited return of the South Island’s largest literary festival. Visit their website for all programming details to be announced soon.
What an amazing month of media coverage it has been for our Grand Old Lady. We have had articles featured around the world in the UK Daily Express, Fox News USA, 9News Australia, the Sydney Morning Herald and many many more on the Sir Ian McKellen shows. The ITR is now firmly on the world map as a hopeful symbol of Christchurch recovery after so much destruction. We sincerely thank everyone who is supporting these fundaising shows, both Sir Ian’s Christchurch shows at Aurora Centre and the Flight of the Conchords show at CBS Arena in June are now sold out..! There are still a few tickets left for Sir Ian’s 2nd Christchurch show at The Court on Sunday 3 June, 2pm. Let’s celebrate a hat-trick with a sell-out for Miriam Margolyes. Most importantly though we are overwhelmed with the generosity of the artists and our heartfelt thanks goes to everyone involved in putting these shows together.
We are absolutely thrilled to be able to present you entertainment of such a high quality again in the city and we WILL see you back at a show or two or three at the ITR next year.
