17 & 18 November – Russian National Dance Show – Kostroma
Performed by the world-renowned RUSSIAN NATIONAL DANCE company, ‘KOSTROMA’ is a spectacular and beautiful evocation in dance of ancient Russian culture, uniting centuries of dramatic musical and dance tradition. The premiere performances of ‘KOSTROMA’ were presented in Moscow, London, Paris and Rotterdam, and has been appearing in the Cosmos Concert Hall in Moscow since 2005.
A DAZZLING MASTERPIECE featuring 45 elite dancers, masterly techniques, 600 lavish costumes and over 15 breathtaking scenes, ‘KOSTROMA’, named after an ancient Russian town situated on the banks of the great Volga, takes the audience on a bewitching journey from the Arctic north to the southern Steppes, the peaks of the Caucasus to the depths of Siberia.
In a generous gesture from the promoters, 50% of the proceeds from the Monday 17th November performance will be donated to the ITR’s Earthquake recovery fund. A great reason to be at the very first performance of the 2014 Reopening Season at the ITR.

20 – 22 November – Royal NZ Ballet presents The Vodafone Season of A Christmas Carol
We are thrilled and proud to have Royal NZ Ballet as a part of the reopening season with The Vodafone Season of A Christmas Carol accompanied by the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. A dazzling retelling of Dickens’ classic yuletide tale, perfect for family celebrations and festive treats. Ebenezer Scrooge lives up to his name until one Christmas Eve he is visited by four ghosts. Following revelations of joy, warmth and life, Scrooge is also shown darkness, despair and sadness until finally his cold heart is restored to goodwill and happiness by the power of Christmas.
This acclaimed production, created for Northern Ballet – a company noted for its strength in storytelling and creating works as appealing to children as they are to adults, now seen for the first time outside the UK, is an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic ‘A Christmas Carol’. The setting is picture-perfect Victorian and the staging is lively and vivid. Music for the production was specially created by celebrated film and television composer Carl Davis and includes familiar Christmas carols.
