Early last year, New Zealand’s most well-known playwright, Roger Hall, put a call out across the country to theatre companies, venues, schools and community arts organisations to consider a national celebration of New Zealand theatre and its people.
Like NZ Music Month in May, New Zealand Theatre Month would bring homegrown theatre into focus every September, with the inaugural festival taking place in 2018. From traditional scripted to leading edge work that explores the daring, new and different: New Zealand Theatre Month will celebrate and elevate NZ theatre and those who create it, honouring local heroes, past and present.
New Zealand Theatre Month is for everyone who loves theatre, for audiences and supporters as well as theatre makers, educators and other creatives.
With the generous support of both Christchurch City Council and ASB the Isaac Theatre Royal has put together a full programme of events within the festival, as well as developing a city-wide brochure highlighting the multitude of NZ Theatre Month shows and events being presented throughout Christchurch.
