The Royal New Zealand Ballet suspends all rehearsals, performances and community events

The Royal New Zealand Ballet has suspended all rehearsals, performances, education and community activities until the spring.

The RNZB’s Venus Rising programme, which was to have premiered in Wellington on May 29 and tour to Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Napier, Tauranga and Palmerston North will now be postponed until August and September 2020. It will replace our new production of Dangerous Liaisons by award-winning choreographer Annabelle Lopez-Ochoa, with designs by Tatyana van Walsum.

Dangerous Liaisons will no longer be included in the Royal New Zealand Ballet’s 2020 Season and our intention is to include it in a future season. The Ryman Healthcare Season of The Sleeping Beauty, due to open in Wellington on 29 October and tour nationally through until 12 December, remains unaffected at this stage.

RNZB subscribers and individual ticket holders for Venus Rising and Dangerous Liaisons will be contacted directly by our ticketing staff to discuss options for returns, exchanges, donations and refunds. We are currently working through the ramifications of this process with our colleagues at venues and ticketing agencies and at this stage expect to be in touch with all ticket holders during the week of 20 April.

We remain committed to sharing our work with as many people as possible. At this time when our physical worlds are, of vital necessity, fenced in, we will always seek to open a window and give you an escape into the beautiful world of the living arts.

Please visit for updates; we will also continue to post content on our Facebook and Instagram pages and invite dance lovers in New Zealand and beyond to keep in touch with our work on this virtual stage.

The Promoters of Sleeping Beauty regrettably advise that due to the ongoing global situation regarding Coronavirus and the associated travel restrictions, the event has been postponed to 2021.

Existing tickets will be honoured for the new tour dates, which will be communicated in due course.

For current ticket holders who are unable to attend their rescheduled show, refunds are also available.

We apologise for any inconvenience.

Ticketholders wanting a refund should submit a request to Tickets purchased by credit or debit card will be refunded in full (including ticket insurance premium, if relevant). Patrons should allow up to 30 working days for the refund to appear in their account after the refund has been requested.

Stewart & Tricia of Stetson Productions are saddened to advise that YESTERDAY ONCE MORE  cannot proceed currently and is therefore postponed.

The USA Producers are very keen that we secure another run of dates – which Stewart is working on right now.

Sadly, and for some it’s a case of unavailability, the new tour will not include Oamaru, Ashburton and Putaruru .

The proposed dates will be in March 2021.

The exact dates will be known hopefully in a few days – meantime please hold on to your tickets as all seats will be valid for the new date in your chosen City.

Refunds will be made to holders of tickets to Oamaru, Ashburton and Putaruru.

Thanks for your patience and support in this unprecedented time and we wish you all good health.

Kia ora whānau, we are postponing our May shows to November 2020. Please bear with us while we confirm the new dates.

We will contact all ticket holders as soon as we can with the options to either retain your tickets for the new date 🙏🙏🙏 or receive a refund. We ask those who can both afford & make the new dates to stick with us & the arts.

Safety is the most important thing right now. We encourage everyone to follow the guidance of the government, to look after each other & stay safe, & look forward to seeing you a little bit later in 2020.

Ticketek Box Office located in the ITR is closed until further notice,

New Zealand Opera reschedules part of 2020 season

Thursday 19 March, 2020

New Zealand Opera has made the difficult decision to reschedule our 2020 production of The Marriage of Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro) due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Given the Government directive on audience sizes and the travel restrictions impacting international cast and creatives, we believe this is the only possible decision and one that prioritises the health and wellbeing of our performers, crew, orchestras, audiences and community at large.

We intend to remount The Marriage of Figaro in September/October 2021. This will be the same new production that was due to start rehearsing next month, and will continue the exciting work already achieved. As soon as we are able to confirm dates and venues, we will work with the existing cast, creatives and production team to give them first refusal on their previous roles.

The Christchurch season of Eight Songs for a Mad King has also been rescheduled to the end of this year. We will contact each ticket holder individually to discuss options regarding their ticket purchases.

Ticket holders for both productions will be contacted directly to arrange for credits or refunds.

At this stage we are hopeful that Semele (10 – 19 September in Auckland) and our national tour of The Human Voice (6 October – 6 November) will go ahead as planned.

“This is an extremely uncertain time for everyone, and while we are all extremely disappointed not to be in a position to bring these productions to audiences as planned, we have no other option but to reschedule,” says General Director Thomas de Mallet Burgess.

“The year started so well for New Zealand Opera with such a favourable response to our reimagining opera with Eight Songs for a Mad King. We look forward to picking up where we left off as soon as circumstances permit. In the meantime we’ll be bringing forward new project ideas in the digital space. The most important thing at this time is to focus on resilience and wellbeing, and our priority over the coming weeks is to look after our staff and community.”

With much regret, but in line with the national response to the COVID-19 pandemic that has resulted in a restriction on mass gatherings and strict requirements for entry to Australia and New Zealand – The Prestige Presents advises that all dates in the Fastlove – Fastlove – A Tribute to George Michael Australian and New Zealand tour scheduled for May 2020 will be postponed.

Our Fastlove members have said ‘We were so thrilled to be coming to visit our fans in Australia for the third time and to be visiting New Zealand for the first, but the health and safety of our audiences and all those involved in our show is absolutely paramount and so we will look forward to seeing you all in 2021′

We are finalising all the details of each new date and every patron will be contacted as soon as possible with details of the new performance date in 2021.

“After careful consideration, planning and reviewing the developing situation with COVID-19, it is with great regret that the producers of Everybody Interesting Is Gay have decided  to cancel this Friday’s performance at the Gloucester Room at the Isaac Theatre Royal.

We have been very much looking forward to bringing this show to Christchurch as part of Christchurch Pride, but feel as though we must minimise risk to ourselves and the community at this time.

We will look at restaging the show for Christchurch audiences later in the year, once precautionary measures around COVID-19 have been lifted.”

Media Release: 17 March 2020

Covid-19 and Showbiz Christchurch As we all face the difficult challenge of responding to COVID-19, Showbiz Christchurch regrettably announces the postponement of the 2020 seasons of My Fair Lady, Chess in Concert and Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story.

This includes festivals, fairs, sporting, religious and cultural events. This will be regularly reviewed. The intent of the measures is to avoid non-essential gatherings which may facilitate the spread of COVID-19.

The My Fair Lady season will move to 11-26 September 2020 and Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story will provisionally open in September 2021. Chess in Concert will be rescheduled to future dates.

Showbiz Christchurch customers with tickets to the 2020 Saunders & Co Season of performances purchased through Ticketek will be contacted in due course by Ticketek to offer flexible choices, including:

• ticket exchange,

• a refund.

We know this is a difficult time for our community and we extend our solidarity to all of those who are impacted, especially staff, contractors, artists, performers, clients, local retail and hospitality operators, accommodation and transport providers whose livelihood depends on a vibrant and fully functioning Arts industry.
