Mantra explores love, life and death in a poëtic meditation. In a sparse landscape four individuals, two dancers and two puppets, try to find their way in life. Puppets represent the unconscious of the two dancers who are challenging their own being and sensuality through the character of the puppets. Mantra is the result of the cooperation between movement director Fleur de Thier and artist and puppet maker Simon van der Sluijs. The show is a unique mix of dance, puppetry (life sized and visually stunning), poetry, and an impressive music score and attracted a diverse audience, many new to dance and most having never seen adult puppetry and, we’re proud to say, were not disappointed.
“This work looks deceptively easy but the complexity of choreographing two dancers and two puppets adds an extra layer. The effect is stunning and the flow is breathtaking.”- Kerri Fitzgerald, Theatreview, 26 Oct 2019
