In this thrilling workshop, brought to you by Canvas Bag Drama School and the Isaac Theatre Royal, you will:
- Create your own dazzling tale of transformation
- Master storytelling techniques and theatrical structures
- Perform your story in the Isaac Theatre Royal’s iconic Gloucester Room Studio
- ‘Transform’ your acting abilities under expert guidance
Whether you’ve felt the thrill of the stage before or are brand new to its magic, this workshop promises to be a joyful, creative adventure where memories are made to last a lifetime.

MEET THE TALENTED TUTORS:
Group 1: 7 – 9 years – Tutored by Andrew Gilbert
Time: 9am – 3pm (final day will conclude at 4pm)
Andrew has a keen interest in improvisation, and encourages imagination and quick thinking within conventional story telling structure, and improvisation itself. As a deep appreciator of storytelling, Andrew encourages his students to find the patterns within all stories, and to understand the rules of regular storytelling so that they may be broken in interesting ways!
Group 2: 10 – 12 years – Tutored by Caitlyn O’Rouke
Time: 9am – 3pm (final day will conclude at 4pm)
Caitlyn started her theatre journey with Harlequin Players and later joined Riccarton Players, taking on various stage roles. An accomplished singer, she was part of Burnside’s Bel Canto choir and has directed at Canterbury University’s Musoc and Dramasoc. She also led improvisation workshops with SayWhat. Caitlyn blends technical voice and body knowledge with artistic pursuits, believing improvisation has been crucial to her growth as both a performer and a person. She’s passionate about making improvisation accessible to all who wish to thrive.
Group 3: 13 – 17 years – Tutored by Harry Lawrence – Course Coordinator
Time: 9am – 4pm
Harry is an actor/director/playwright who has been in performing arts circles by the time he could talk. Originally from Swansea (Wales), Harry has been involved in a wide variety on theatre disciplines including musical theatre, improvisation, physical theatre and puppetry and has toured with Creature Encounter, an internationally acclaimed street theatre puppetry group. Since moving to Christchurch Harry now runs the Hwyl Theatre Company with his partner Emma which provides original theatrical productions across the South Island.
Course content designer and Canvas Bag Drama School Director – Felicity Williams
Felicity Williams has an Honours Degree in Composition from the University of Canterbury. She has been the recipient of numerous awards and prizes, including a QE2 Arts Council residency, and in addition, for her large body of work in television and film media, both in New Zealand and internationally. Felicity believes that imaginative games are the catalyst for the intellectual and emotional growth of children and to this end, she develops and participates extensively in children’s play patterns while teaching drama classes at Canvas Bag Drama School.

- Group 2: 10 – 11 years // 9am – 3pm (final day will conclude at 4pm)
- Group 3: 12 – 17 years // 9am – 4pm
Drop off for all groups is from 8.30am. Please ensure to sign in on arrival.
Cost: $250.00 incl GST (workshop lunch additional) **Please note: Your place in this workshop will be confirmed once payment has been received.**
Wear: Comfortable clothing.
Workshop lunch is sorted! Take the hassle out of organising and pre-purchase a healthy, delicious lunch for only an additional $17.50 per day.
Lunches include a substantial savory item, piece of fresh fruit, a sweet treat and a choice of drink (bottled water, Charlies orange juice pouch or Charlies blackcurrant & apple juice pouch). All dietary requirements will be catered for. **Participants are welcome to bring their own packed lunch.**
