Live & Local - Isaac Theatre Royal

The vibrant Canterbury arts scene is teeming with exceptional talent, yet local artists often face challenges in gaining exposure and opportunities to showcase their craft on larger platforms. In recognition of this, we have launched a local artist support programme, Live & Local at the Isaac Theatre Royal.

This programme aims to provide a platform for local Canterbury musicians and bands to support national and international acts performing at the theatre, thereby fostering collaboration, exposure, and career development within the local music community.

Objectives:

To showcase the wealth of local talent in Christchurch and Canterbury region.
To provide local artists with valuable exposure and performance opportunities.
To enhance the cultural vibrancy of the Isaac Theatre Royal by featuring a diverse range of artists.
To foster connections and collaboration between local and touring artists.
To contribute to the career development and sustainability of local musicians and bands

Program Details

Selection Process

Local artists and bands interested in participating in the programme need to submit applications showcasing their musical style, achievements, and suitability for supporting national and international acts.

A panel comprising representatives from the Isaac Theatre Royal, local, national and international music industry professionals will review the applications and select artists based on merit and compatibility with the headlining acts.

Emphasis will be placed on diversity, originality, and professionalism in the selection process.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis throughout the year.
Headlining artists will have input in selecting their supporting acts to ensure compatibility and complementarity.
Successful applicants will be contacted for further discussions and potential audition or interview.

Artist Support

Selected local Canterbury artists will be provided with the opportunity to support national and international acts performing at the Isaac Theatre Royal.

The promoter and headlining artists will have input into the selection of the support bands to ensure compatibility and cohesion with the overall concert experience.

Artists selected for support slots will receive fair compensation for their performances in line with industry standards.

Applying

We encourage all emerging and independent artists and bands to apply, regardless of where you are in your journey or if you have had little to no performance experience.

Terms and Conditions(Required)

Legal Provisions for Live & Local Programme

Eligibility and Selection:
All applicants must be residents of Canterbury, New Zealand, and at least 18 years of age (Unless accompanied by an adult).
The selection of support acts is at the sole discretion of the Isaac Theatre Royal (ITR) and the headlining artists. Decisions are final and not subject to appeal.

Performance Agreement:
Selected artists/bands must enter into a performance agreement with ITR, outlining the terms and conditions of the performance, including date, time, and duration.
Artists/bands agree to perform a set approved by ITR and the headlining artist, adhering to the agreed-upon schedule.

Compensation:
Selected artists/bands will receive compensation as outlined in the performance agreement. This compensation is provided at no additional cost to the promoter.
No additional fees or costs will be charged to the promoters for including a local support act through the Live & Local programme.

Rights and Licensing:
Artists/bands grant Isaac Theatre Royal the right to use their name, likeness, and performance materials (e.g., audio, video, photographs) for promotional purposes related to the Live & Local programme and associated events. Artists/bands retain all rights to their original music and performances, subject to the performance agreement's terms.

Compliance and Conduct:
Artists/bands must comply with all Isaac Theatre Royal policies, including health and safety regulations, during their performance. Professional conduct is expected at all times. The ITR reserves the right to terminate the performance agreement if an artist/band fails to comply with these standards.

Cancellation and Postponement:
The Isaac Theatre Royal reserves the right to cancel or postpone performances due to unforeseen circumstances, including but not limited to, acts of nature, public health concerns, or technical issues. In the event of a cancellation or postponement, the ITR will make reasonable efforts to reschedule the performance or provide an alternative opportunity.

Indemnification:
Artists/bands agree to indemnify and hold harmless ITR, its staff, and the headlining artists from any claims, damages, or liabilities arising from their participation in the Live & Local programme.

Dispute Resolution:
Any disputes arising under the performance agreement will be resolved through good faith negotiations. If a resolution cannot be reached, disputes will be subject to mediation or arbitration in accordance with New Zealand law.

Governing Law: These provisions and any related agreements shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of New Zealand.
