The Isaac Theatre Royal and Canvas Bag Drama School present...
July 2024 School Holiday Drama Workshops – REGISTRATION CLOSED!

Mon 15 July - Wed 17 July 2024
Isaac Theatre Royal

Isaac Theatre Royal and Canvas Bag Drama School are back with the THIRD installment of our 2024 Drama Workshops for the upcoming July School Holiday break!

Monday 15th – Wednesday 17th July!

This July, the course will be split into three age groups; 7-9yrs, 10-12yrs and 13-17yrs, and will take place in our front of house spaces and on stage. All students will get to act out their unique, space-age stories on the Isaac Theatre Royal stage!

INTERSTELLAR IMPROV!

Get ready to engage as we embark on an out-of-this-world adventure.
Join us for three days of science fiction, where we’ll boldly go where no one else is silly enough to have gone before.
Do aliens dream of ice creams?
Can you master the force (but please, find the on/off button first)?

These are just a few of the questions we’ll explore as we lose ourselves in the space and time continuum.

In this workshop, students will:

  • Devise their own interstellar script
  • Learn storytelling structures and concepts
  • Act out their unique, space-age stories on the Isaac Theatre Royal stage

Act long and prosper with us. Whether you’re a seasoned performer or new to theatre arts, we promise laughter, creativity, and a journey to remember. Spaces are limited, so sign up now for an unforgettable cosmic escapade!

If you are 11 or 12, and have attended 2 previous middle group classes then pending approval you may move to the senior group to participate in more advanced curriculum. Please let us know on the registration form if this applies to your application.

Andrew has a keen interest in improvisation, and encourages imagination and quick thinking within conventional story telling structure, and improvisation itself. Time: 9am – 3pm (final day will conclude at 4pm)

Annabel trained at Excel School of Performing Arts in Auckland in 2005 and then for the successive 2 years, at Hagley Theatre Company in Christchurch. Annabel brings energy and excitement to her drama workshops and loves bringing out imagination and creativity in children.

Group 3: 13 – 17 years – Tutored by Josiah Morgan

Time: 9am – 4pm

Josiah believes that involvement with the arts is a journey of constant learning, central to his belief system as an artist is openness, honesty and punctuality. He is an author of poetry and prose; with his first book coming out in 2019 and his second scheduled for release in late 2020. Josiah’s practice has embraced amateur theatre, combined with the occasional professional or semi-professional role. Currently he is studying towards a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Anthropology – fuelled by a keen interest in people and what makes them tick.

Course content designer and Canvas Bag Drama School Director – Felicity Williams

She has been the recipient of numerous awards and prizes, including a QE2 Arts Council residency, and in addition, for her large body of work in television and film media, both in New Zealand and internationally.
